The cargo turnover along the NSR to reach 34 million tonnes, says Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic

Minister Aleksey Chekunkov notes that LNG accounts for over 60% of cargo traffic

In 2022, the cargo turnover along the North Sea Route will exceed the target value of 32 mn tonnes and will amount to 34 mn tonnes. This was reported to TASS on Thursday by the Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic Aleksey Chekunkov.

"As of 7 December, the actual flow of cargo in the NSR waters has already reached 31.8 mn tonnes," said the Minister.

He stressed that LNG accounted for more than 60% of the cargo traffic. Other goods transported along the North Sea Route include oil, general cargo, containers, and gas condensate.

The government has approved a development plan for the NSR until 2035 and intends to allocate RUB 1.8 tn from various sources for its implementation. According to the forecast, the transport corridor's cargo flow could increase from the current 35 mn tonnes to the target value of 220 mn tonnes.

The North Sea Route is the shortest water route between the European part of Russia and the Far East.
