Lapland Nature Reserve Visitor Centre to be Established by Spring 2023

17 March 2022

WWF-Russia launched a fundraising campaign to finance the establishment of a visitor centre in the Lapland State Nature Biosphere Reserve (Murmansk Region), one of the largest protected areas in Europe, as reported by Interfax.

The project requires RUB 4.722 mn. This amount will allow developing the concept, plan and project design of the Visitor Centre exposition, while also providing the funds necessary for its organisation. The estimate also includes the creation of an accessible environment, purchase of multimedia equipment and infrastructure works.

The Visitor Centre is scheduled to open in the spring of 2023. With its opening, the Lapland Reserve tourist flow will double — from 5,000 to 10,000 people a year. The Lapland Nature Reserve was founded in 1930. The reserve features 30-metre-high trees aged 500–600 years.
