Craftsmen from the Chukotka Autonomous Area took part for the first time in the International Festival of Folk Crafts, which was held from 12 to 15 September 2024 at the Nizami Ganjavi Park in Derbent. The Uelen Bone-Carving Studio presented the unique art of working with walrus tusk and demonstrated the creativity of its masters. This was reported by the press service of the Government of Chukotka Autonomous Area.

Alexandra Nypevgi, a master from the Uelen Studio, introduced festival guests to her remarkable works, which included large sculptural compositions such as Reindeer Sledge, Whale and Orcas, and Dog Sledge, as well as various smaller items, including badges and keychains. All products reflect not only the craftsmanship but also the cultural traditions of Chukotka.

During the festival, visitors were told about the process of creating these unique products, as well as about the peculiarities of the Ueleni school of bone-carving craftsmanship. The exposition is designed to draw attention to how this type of craft is developing, as well as preserving the cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of Chukotka, which continues to live and be relevant.
