Tourist flow to the Arctic is expected to exceed 1 mn people in 2023
Aleksey Chekunkov, head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, called Arctic tourism an extremely promising direction.
24 January 2024More than 1 million tourists visited the Arctic in 2023, said the head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic Aleksey Chekunkov within the framework of the Government Hour in the Federation Council, TASS reports.
'At the end of 2023, tourist traffic to the Arctic exceeded 1.1 million people. Now 130 new projects in the field of Arctic tourism are being created with state support,' he said.
Chekunkov described Arctic tourism as a new and highly promising sector. 'Here in the Federation Council, as part of one of our Arctic Council meetings, sociologists were reporting the results of a survey of Russians' satisfaction with travelling around the country. The highest percentage—97%—rated their trips to the Arctic most positively. Probably, because the impressions can be brighter only from a flight into space,' said the Minister.
