The Arctic Medicine standard aims to focus on disease prevention
The document will also incorporate best medical practices from Arctic regions.
18 October 2024The new Arctic Medicine standard being developed in the Murmansk Region will focus on disease prevention and incorporate best medical practices from Russia's Arctic regions, the Murmansk Region Ministry of Information Policy reported following a meeting of the expert council of the State Council Commission on the 'North Sea Route and Arctic' direction. This was reported by TASS.
'Russian Federation subjects need to review their best practices, discuss with the scientific community and develop a set standard for Arctic Medicine. First and foremost, prevention measures need to be developed. Additionally, as part of medical check-ups, depending on the specifics of the territories and disease analysis, a more comprehensive set of measures should be provided to identify cancer risk factors at early stages. Another issue I propose to analyse in detail is the provision of medical care, considering logistics to remote areas,' the commission chairman, the governor, is quoted as saying.
The new medical standard for Russian Arctic zone residents also proposes creating centres for prevention and risk assessment of adolescent reproductive health, amending sanitary and epidemiological requirements for kindergarten and school nutrition to address vitamin and micronutrient deficiencies, and expanding existing programmes 'Zemsky Doctor' and 'Zemsky Feldsher' to address staffing issues.
