The 6th Working Group on Ocean and Polar Science and Technology convened in Murmansk

Over 50 scientists from seven countries are attending this scientific event in person.

13 June 2024

During Russia's BRICS chairmanship in 2024, Murmansk has been chosen as the venue for the 6th Working Group on Ocean and Polar Science and Technology, scheduled for 13–15 June. To date, such meetings in Russia have only occurred in Moscow, with the last one on 23 September 2020. This is what the press service of the Murmansk regional government reports.

Over 50 scientists from seven countries—Russia, India, China, South Africa, Brazil, Iran and UAE—are participating in person at this scientific event. Researchers will showcase their latest scientific and technological advances in oceanology and polar studies and discuss upcoming joint activities under Russia's BRICS presidency. Organisations from the Murmansk Region will present their findings from polar and oceanological research.

Oksana Demchenko, First Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region, inaugurated the meeting with a welcoming address.

'The Murmansk Region leads the AZRF in terms of staff engaged in scientific research and development. The Kola Science Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences operates in the Murmansk Region—it's Russia's sole federal research centre north of the Arctic Circle,' announced the First Vice-Governor, wishing participants productive deliberations.
