The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov talked about the construction of the new ships in his address to the participants of the 12th Forum The Arctic: Today and the Future, which opened in St. Petersburg on 8 December, says Sudostroenie.info.

SC Zvezda earlier planned to build a series of ten shuttle tankers for Rosneft's Vostok Oil project. The vessels were supposed to be of the Arc7 ice class.

In September 2019, SC Zvezda established a joint venture with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to manage the construction of shuttle tankers with a deadweight of 42,000–120,000 tonnes at the shipyard in Bolshoy Kamen.

The Arctic: Present and Future International Forum is being held in St. Petersburg on 8 and 9 December. The forum's participants aim to join efforts to ensure a sustainable future for the macro-region.
