The competition purpose is to find the best implemented municipal practices in AZRF in the field of digitalization of the urban environment and the improvement of public and courtyard spaces and extend them to other territories of the Russian Arctic. In 2021, the contestants presented projects in two nominations: "the best public space in the Arctic zone" and "the best digitalization practices in the field of transport in the Arctic zone." In 2022, nominations will be changed to cover all areas of urban development as much as possible. The competition is held annually.

37 applications with implemented projects from 6 subjects of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation were submitted to the competition.

The awards for the best public spaces went to the Ukhuyen public garden in Verkhoyansk and Kolymskoye Podvorye in Srednekolymsk, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia); the coastal park on Russkaya Street in Tarko-Sale, Parkovy Boulevard in Muravlenko, the IcePark park area in the village of Yar-Sale, the pedestrian zone on Internationalnaya Street in Novy Urengoy, as well as the recreation and entertainment park in Noyabrsk, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.

The best digitalization practices in the field of transport in the Arctic zone include: the modernization of the municipality of Murmansk through the introduction of digital transform platforms as part of the Smart Region project in the Murmansk region; the automatic system for monitoring the use of snow removal vehicles in Salekhard, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District; and the TiksiAvia application in the settlement of Tiksi, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Winning projects are included in the Library of Practices for the Development and Improvement of the Environment of Arctic Settlements.
