Programme for Construction of Ice-Class Vessels for North Sea Route to Be Developed in Russia

As part of the North Sea Route development, a needs-based programme for the construction of ice-class cargo ships until 2035 shall be created.

TASS reports this news, citing the plan for the development of the North Sea Route until 2035, approved by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.

'Preparation of materials on the investor-confirmed need for ice-class cargo vessels, including supply vessels, until 2035, including the number and designs of vessels, as well as the years of their contracting and delivery. Preparation of a programme for the construction of ice-class cargo ships, including for the delivery of supply cargo, until 2035,' the document reads.

Information on the programme is to be submitted to the Government of the Russian Federation by 1 March 2023, while proposals for the development of the icebreaker fleet until 2035 should be presented by 1 December this year.

As part of the North Sea Route development, plans also exist to build a fleet for liquefied natural gas production projects, vessels for the Vostok Oil development project and for the Severnaya Zvezda coal project, as well as a fleet for the project by the Baim Mining Company LLC. On top of that, provisions are made for the construction of a 46-vessel-strong rescue fleet, as noted on the website of the Government of the Russian Federation.
