The missile cruiser submarine Orel and the strategic nuclear missile cruiser submarine Verkhoturyehave have set sail into the Barents Sea for Arctic exercises. TASS news agency reports that this has been announced to the journalists of the Northern Fleet's press service.

"The crews of the nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet have worked on the passage from the stationing sites as part of the exercise with the Arctic expeditionary military force. The nuclear missile cruiser submarine Orel and the strategic nuclear missile cruiser submarine Verkhoturyehave have put out to the Barents Sea," the press service informed.

The Fleet announced that after setting sail into the Barents Sea, the nuclear submarines began to carry out the tasks in accordance with the plan for exercises with the Arctic expeditionary military force.

The exercises represent the final stage of the operational and combat training program for the Northern Fleet's forces this year. They are held on training ranges in Murmansk Oblast, in the waters of the Barents and the Kara Seas, in the area around the New Siberian Islands in the Laptev Sea, and the Frantz Josef Land Archipelago. Up to 8 thousand military personnel are taking part in the exercises. About 800 units of special and military equipment are involved, including 40 tanks, 460 armoured combat vehicles, up to 240 guns, mortars, multiple rocket launchers, about 120 aircraft including uncrewed aerial vehicles, up to 50 ships, and supply vessels.
