More than 8,700 children had free holidays in 2022 under the Children of the Arctic programme

Students from the Arctic regions—pupils in grades 5–8—became participants in the Children of the Arctic programme of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

2 November 2022

More than 8,700 children were able to relax at Russia's best resorts on the Black Sea coast, the Sea of Azov, the Caspian Sea and the Sea of Japan, as well as in the Republic of Adygea and the Caucasus.

The federal budget paid for the holiday package and trip there and back. Thanks to the resulting savings in transport costs, 2,000 more children spent their holidays in health camps than originally planned.

A total of RUB 423.9 mn was allocated from the federal budget to organise holidays under the Children of the Arctic programme. It has been in force in the region since 2022, with an annual allocation of RUB 450 mn. Each year, the programme will provide recreation opportunities for around 6,000 northerners—pupils in grades 5–8—who live and study in the Arctic zone: in Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk, Novodvinsk, on Novaya Zemlya, in Primorsky, Mezensky, Onezhsky, Leshukonsky and Pinezhsky districts.
