The Lavna cargo seaport on the western shore of the Kola Bay in the Murmansk Region will be operational by the end of 2024. This is reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the head of Rosmorrechflot Andrey Tarasenko on the sidelines of the Transport of Russia Forum Exhibition.

'It will be introduced before the end of the year. At present, the conclusion of conformity and permission for the commissioning of the railway line of non-use have been received, the possibility of technical operation of the terminal in the mode of commissioning works has been ensured,' he said.

Earlier, the governor of the region Andrey Chibis reported that the Lavna port in the Polar region will start operating in August 2024.

Construction of the Lavna port and its rail approaches began in 2018. In 2020, the contract for the construction of a railway line to the port across the Tuloma River was cancelled after the price of coal, which was to be one of the main cargoes to be handled by the port's facilities, fell. Some of the investors left the project. In 2021, the State Transport Leasing Company started the re-assembly of the Murmansk Transport Hub and Port of Lavna project.
