Gazprom Neft received a licence for the Ust-Yenisei block in the Kara Sea. As a result, the company has completed the formation of a large-scale prospecting cluster in the Russian Arctic, including 29 sites in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area and Krasnoyarsk Territory, TASS reported, citing the company's press service.

A new site in the Kara Sea connects exploration assets on the Gydan and Taimyr Peninsulas.

'The exploration work already started and planned in these areas will make it possible to assess their potential and work out a strategy for developing the resource base. In the long term, this prospecting project has the potential to become one of our company's key production clusters,' said Alexander Dyukov, CEO of Gazprom Neft.

Gazpromneft-Geo became the exploration operator for the Gydan-Taimyr group.

The Ust-Yenisei section is located in the waters of the Yenisei Gulf of the Kara Sea and covers almost 6,000 square kilometres. The licence for geological exploration of the site was issued to Gazprom Neft on a declarative basis for the purpose of searching for and assessing hydrocarbon deposits.

The new asset connects opposite sides of the Yenisei Gulf, where Gazprom Neft-owned licence areas on the Gydan and Taimyr Peninsulas are located. In total, the Gydan-Taimyr group includes 29 areas with a total area of about 23,000 square kilometres.

'These areas are characterised by a very low degree of geological exploration, as well as remoteness from transport and oil and gas infrastructure. Combining the assets into a single prospecting cluster will provide synergies and increase the efficiency of exploration activities,' the company added.

Previously, no exploration had been carried out in the Ust-Yenisei area.
