Floating LNG Storage Facilities to Appear in Murmansk and Kamchatka

Gazprombank will provide NOVATEK with a EUR 522 mn loan for the construction of two floating gas storage facilities in Murmansk and Kamchatka, the bank said. According to Kommersant, the barges are to be located in Murmansk and Kamchatka by the end of 2022.

25 September 2020

LNG barges for NOVATEK will be built by the Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for $748.2 mn. The vessels will be used for LNG storage and transhipment and serve the planned LNG transhipment projects in Murmansk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Their delivery is synchronized with the launch of the terminals in late 2022.

The construction of LNG terminals with a total cost of about RUB 150 bn (taking into account dredging and onshore infrastructure) will help NOVATEK to streamline logistics and reduce the time and cost of cargo delivery to Europe and Asia.

At transhipment points, gas delivered by ice-breaking tankers from the company's LNG projects in Yamal and Gydan will be loaded onto conventional tankers and delivered to LNG markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
