AKSU, as a resident of Chukotka Advanced Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), has modernised a water treatment plant in Anadyr. Now the purification of drinking water for residents of Anadyr takes place in automated mode, a system of dispatching and automatic control was also created. Under an agreement with the Far East Development Corporation (FEDC), RUB 29.5 mn was invested in the project.

The investment project solved several problems at once. Thus, in addition to the creation of modern municipal water treatment infrastructure in the capital of Chukotka, the foundation has been laid for a reduction in specific energy consumption. Due to the introduction of modern technologies at the water treatment plant, RUB 0.9 million will be saved annually. But the main achievement, according to the Chukotka resident, is the improvement of the environmental situation.

‘Previously, the water was treated with liquid chlorine, stored in cylinders at the station, but now a new technology of treatment and disinfection with sodium hypochlorite, which is safe for people and less harmful to the environment, has been introduced. It helped to get away from dangerous production. We prepare it ourselves from purified table salt,’ said Vadim Kadokhov, General Director of AKSU LLC, adding that an average of 93,000 cubic metres of clean drinking water is supplied to the city network of Anadyr and Tavayvaam village per month.

‘AKSU is the only organisation in the administrative centre of the ChAA that has appropriate facilities to treat the water supplied from a surface source. Given that the water treatment plant was built in the city more than 30 years ago, it has long been in need of modernisation. Tax benefits and preferences helped the investor complete the project within the planned time frame and bring it to cost-effective operation,’ said Sergey Kolyadko, director of Chukotka ASEZ (a subsidiary of FEDC).
