Cargo traffic in Russia's Arctic latitudes is expected to exceed targets in 2024, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, said on Friday. This is reported by TASS.

'Due to recent events, the structure of cargo transport along the North Sea Route has also changed. According to shippers' forecasts, freight traffic in Arctic latitudes could increase in 2024 compared to preliminary plans. And in general, it is expected to grow,' he said.

As Medvedev explained, this is due to several reasons, including the reorientation of Russian energy exports from Western countries to the Asia-Pacific region.

The North Sea Route is a shipping route and the main maritime communication route in the Russian Arctic. Russian President Vladimir Putin has set the goal of increasing the volume of traffic on the NSR to 80 mn tons per year by 2024.
