Arctic container ship to be built in the interests of Rosatom and DP World

Rosatom and DP World will build a container ship for cargo transportation along the North Sea Route.

A container ship for cargo transportation along the North Sea Route is planned to be built in the interests of a joint venture between Rosatom and Emirati DP World, the project is underway and is moving to contract the design of the vessel, Vladimir Panov, a special representative of the Russian nuclear state corporation for Arctic development, told RIA Novosti.

In the autumn of 2023, Rosatom and DP World established a joint venture, International Container Logistics, to develop transit container transportation along the North Sea Route. It has been reported that in the pilot phase, this JV is expected to provide annual traffic of up to 800,000 TEUs (the convention for a 20-foot container). Rosatom's subsidiary Rusatom Cargo owns 51% of the project, while DP World owns 49%. The authorised capital of the JV is RUB 960 mn.

The objective of the enterprise is to create container port facilities between which a high Arctic class vessel, a container ship, will ply. As of today, a study on the parameters of the vessel has been completed.
