The latest Russian icebreakers are constructed using 90% domestic materials.

4 March 2024

Three 22220 Project icebreakers are already operating on the Northern Sea Route and in Siberian rivers: the lead ship Arktika, as well as Sibir and Ural. Komsomolskaya Pravda writes about it.

In December 2024, the flag will be raised on Yakutia, construction is underway on Chukotka, Leningrad was laid in January 2024, and the Stalingrad will be laid in 2025. The newest icebreaker, Leader, is being built in the Far East, which will take the title of the world's most powerful icebreaker from Arktika.

"The new icebreakers are made using more than 90% Russian components. Our shipbuilders have learned to build modern icebreakers, the industry has caught up, we just need to overcome these last 10%, and we will be sovereign and independent in shipbuilding," said Leonid Irlitsa, Acting General Director of FSUE Atomflot.
