Import-substituting components for the safety system of icebreakers' nuclear reactors have been developed and produced at a plant in Moscow, TASS reported citing the capital's mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

'The Moscow plant was the first in Russia to develop and produce components for the safety system of nuclear reactors for icebreakers. Previously, these parts were supplied from Europe,' he wrote in his Telegram channel.

The mayor noted that the element was created in a record four months. It is planned that by the end of the year, such components will be on all icebreakers under construction in the country. He explained that icebreakers ensure the operation of the North Sea Route and the development of Arctic natural resources.

'The city supports the manufacturer. The company has the status of an industrial complex, which gives tax benefits. The plant can use the saved funds for its own development,' Sobyanin concluded.
